SohCahToa Foundation and the Kosofe Local Government Area of Ogudu, have procured 300 General Certificate Examination ,GCE forms for youths in the area , with a view to assisting indegent youths willing to write the examinations.
Speaking at the official presentation of the free GCE forms at the Kosofe Council Secretariat, Founder , SohCahToa, Mrs. Solape Fayemi, explained that the gesture was in line with the foundation’s vision to provide food and education to the downtrodden in Africa.
She clarified that her foundation provided 150 GCE forms, while the local government procured the rest 150.
She applauded the efforts of the local government for taking due consideration on the value of education and investing in the future of youths in the local government.
She said,“the vision of our foundation is to provide food and education to children and underserved communities in Africa.
“When we found out what the leadership of the local community is doing in the area of education,we decided to collaborate with the chairman on this project, to further enhance his agenda in the area of education.
“The vision is to enable children to go to school and learn, as that prepares them for their future. So as a foundation, our focus is to help children get to school and learn in preparation for their future.”
She disclosed that since its establishment two years ago, the foundation had partnered with some government approved orphanage homes to sponsor educational costs and provide educational supplies to children in Bariga, Oworosoki, Ikorodu and Gbagada areas of Lagos, .
She further stated that her foundation had also sponsored over 300 beneficiaries on skill acquisition on fashion designing, hat making, photography, make- up, amongst others.
“Some of them today are working and earning income with the skills they have acquired. Some also learned digital marketing to help them promote their businesses”, she stated.
In his remark, Chairman, Kosofe Local Government Area, Mr Moyosore Ogulewe , charged public office holders to key into the project , in order to give an opportunity to intelligent and talented youths who are deprived financially.
He said, “I have been in office for one year and under our Kosofe edges and support programme , we ‘ve been able to give out 150 GCE forms. Last year, we gave out 1000 JAMB forms. We have also given out 150 free GCE forms now ,while the foundation assisted with 150 GCE forms, bringing the total forms to 300.
“Education is part of the theme of the agenda of the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and we have queued into it as a local government”.
Ogulewe, who expressed delight at the performance of previous beneficiaries of the gesture, disclosed that 120 students out of 150 beneficiaries passed the previous GCE.
While pledging to continue to support youths in the local government, Ogunlewe informed that apart from procuring GCE forms to the targeted youths, “ we are also conducting free lectures for them at one of our centres at Ogudu. We have teachers that are teaching them and I am sure they will do well “.
