ONITSHA—The reconciliation committee set up by South-East Zonal Working Committee of Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP,  to reconcile aggrieved factions of the party in Anambra State has denied insinuations that Governor Peter Obi was sponsoring them to destabilise  the party.

At a briefing at the Jonathan/Sambo Campaign Office, Awka, Chairman of the Strategy Committee, Senator Onyeabo Obi, said the 19 members in the committee were respected and responsible party men  who would not sell their conscience.

He said though Governor Obi  of All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, supported President Goodluck Jonathan to win the April election in the state, the party would not allow him to destabilise it when they were concerned with how to sweep the council poll expected to hold in November.

Obi said  the only problem they had was their inability to gain access to the state party office at Udoka in Awka where his committee was expected to hold its meetings and strategise on how to win the local government election.

Insisting that the South-East  Zonal Working Committee of the party suspended the Ken Emeakaye-led state executive, Obi said his committee would invite PDP stakeholders in the state to find  lasting solution to the crisis in the party.

He said the suspension of the Emeakaye executive followed the expiration of the tenure of all those who had one court judgment or the other laying claim to the leadership of the party in the state.

Obi denied knowledge of the face-off between Emeakaye and the National Vice-Chairman of PDP in the South-East, Mr Olisa Metuh.
