True to type, the Delta State Government is living up to expectations as a special award ceremony is being put in place to honour athletes who won medals for the State at the just-concluded National Sports Festival in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The event, billed for the prestigious Grand Hotel and Resorts Centre, Asaba on the night of Wednesday, 24th August, 2011 will parade the best actors and actresses in Nigeria’s entertainment industry to keep the evening alive.
Delta State is reputed for her prowess in sports and can boast of some of the most sophisticated and modern facilities, her coming second in the festival’s medal table notwithstanding.
A special highlight of the Wednesday’s ceremony will be presentation of awards to the Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Ewetan Uduaghan and the Deputy Governor, Professor Amos Abe Utuama (SAN) respectively by the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Dr. Patrick Ekeji on behalf of the Delta State Sports Commission.
Among the legion of artistes that have confirmed their participation in the Delta State Award Ceremony include: Timaya, Tiwa Savage, Gordons, AY, Seyi Law and Whiskero.
According to the Executive Chairman of Delta State Sports Commission, Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick, the State is impressed with the performance of the State’s contigent to the games and will not leave any stone unturned to reward hardwork.
Mr. Pinnick also revealed that he has the nod of the State Government to kick-start preparations for the next sport’s festival slated for Lagos State.
Another exciting feature of the award ceremony is that athletes would be presented with cheques and not mere pledges.
