OSOGBO — The Federal Road Safety Commission, Osun Sector Command, has sold 33 motorcycles and three vehicles impounded by the command through public auction.

The Command’s Head of Operations, Mr. Michael Olapade, said this yesterday in Osogbo.

Olapade said that all the affected automobiles were impounded in 2008 from traffic law offenders and the owners failed to claim them “since three years ago”.

He explained that the command was lenient enough for disposing only automobiles impounded in 2008, adding that impounded automobiles should not be in the custody of the command for more than six months.

Mr. Olapade said the command followed due process in the auction exercise, saying “we obtained court order and announced on radio and television for owners to report for claim before the auction. Let me add that none of our staff or relatives took part in the auctioning. In fact we stayed clear of the exercise to avoid contravening the law.”

He urged members of the public whose motorcycles or vehicles were in the command custody to come forward and claim them.

Olapade said that the command would soon begin another process to auction the remaining impounded automobiles.

He urged motorists and motorcycle riders in the state to “register traffic law observance in their minds and let it be part of their daily lives.”
