LAGOS — THE Lagos State Indigenes Political Emancipation Forum, LASIPEF, an umbrella body for indigenes of Lagos, has accused the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, of appointing non-indigenes into juicy positions at the expense of the indigenes.

Speaking with newsmen in Alimosho Local Government Area, spokesperson for the Forum, Mr Nawairudeen Idowu, urged the party to correct what it called “the political intimidation, oppression and suppression of Lagos indigenes.”

He said: “We see it as a point of duty to liberate ourselves from the deteriorating political and economical condition of the indigenes of Lagos State. A situation where all the local government chairmen, most of the councillors are non-indigenes is unacceptable to us.”

He said the party should allow the people to decide who should represent them instead of the selecting process adopted by the party, adding: “All the local government chairmen are tactically selected by kangaroo primary elections.

“Five Local Council Development Areas, LCDA, were created out of Alimosho Local Government Area and only Egbe Idimu has a semblance of an indigene running it. The same problem is facing the state House of Assembly and the House of Representatives.

“In Alimosho, the House of Reps position has been rotating between two non-indigenes since 1999. Does it mean there are no sons and daughters, who are indigenes that could serve the state?”

“Lagos State secretariat is filled up with 75% of the workers as non- indigenes while sons and daughters of the state after graduating are roaming the streets searching for jobs in their state,” he added
