In a bid to reward and promote innovations and solutions-driven attitude among youths especially on campus, RewindForward, an educational development Organisation, has unveiled plans for the first ever intelligentsia awards for outstanding students across universities in Nigeria.

The intelligentsia award which is endorsed by the National Universities Commission (NUC) will offer opportunities for students to be selected from various academic fields ranging from Medicine, Engineering, Science and Technology, Social Sciences, Management Sciences, Arts, Law and Education.

The selected students will take part in a thirteen-week reality show to demonstrate their practical knowledge, developmental ideas and innovations tendency in the various academic fields.

Speaking to newsmen in Lagos, National Coordinator of the project, Mr Bode Lukan, said the project is an initiative of the organization aimed at fostering the mental, creative and overall development of students while on campus to prepare them adequately for meaningful contributions to the society upon graduation.

Explaining the modality used in the selection of the various schools, he added that the organization and the NUC committee focus on staffing, academic content, physical facilities, library, funding and employer’s ratings.

The evaluation of the academic field was done based on the listed criteria while NUC scored all the universities in the six geo-political zones in Nigeria and the top six schools in each of the nine academic field emerge as participants for the maiden edition of the awards

Lukan further explained that, the universities that emerged as participants in the medicine fields are, University of Jos, Plateau State University of Lagos, Akoka, University of Nigeria, Nsukka- Enugu State, University of Ibadan, Oyo State, University of Ilorin, Kwara State, and University of Calabar. Olabisi Onabanjo University and others emerge to participate in the other academic fields.

The best students in each of the fields will represent the schools in the reality television show, where the best in all the fields will emerge as the winner.
