BENIN—A six-year- old girl has been rescued from her abductors by operatives of the State Security Services, SSS, in Benin, Edo State, after 13 days in captivity.

The girl, Miss Promise Ekeneme, was said to have been abducted from her parents’ home in Upper Mission, Benin-City on June17, 2011 but the incident was reported to the SSS in the state seven days later by her father.

Addressing newsmen in Benin, yesterday, the State Director of the SSS, Mr Bello Bakori,  said that SSS operatives rescued the girl three days after the incident was reported  to them while two members of the kidnap gang were arrested.

According to Bakori,  one of the two members arrested, Glory Davies, 21 years old, who hailed from  Rivers State, whose mother is from Benin, was arrested while trying to collect the N700,000 ransom money deposited at a spot.

He added that a red Audi car used by the kidnappers was impounded  and now in SSS custody, while the suspects would soon be charged to court.

Speaking to journalists, one of the suspects, Glory Davies, who claimed to be a Computer Engineer,  said the kidnap operation was perfected by one “school boy,” Gift and Solomon, all now at large.

According to him, “I went to pick up the money at Ikpoba Slope, when I was arrested.” He said that his girl friend, one Rachel Edokwe 22, was arrested in his house when the kidnap victim, Miss Ekeneme, was rescued.
