Members of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, have called on state governments to replicate the recently passed Freedom of Information Act, FOI, to further deepen the nation’s democracy.

The Association’s members in a communiqué at their 3rd Triennial National Delegates Conference, Abuja, commended President Goodluck Jonathan and members of the National Assembly for the passage of the FOI Bill into law.

According to the communiqué, “The Conference-in-Session notes the recent passage of the Freedom of Information Act. The Conference-in-Session commends all those who campaigned for the passage of the Act as well as the National Assembly and President Goodluck Jonathan for this landmark legislation.”

“The Conference-in-Session believes that the Act will help to further deepen our democracy and enable citizens shine the needed light on government’s activities and, therefore, calls on State Houses of Assembly to domesticate the Act in their respective states.”
