Camp site war brews between NFF, Kalika

Super Eagles’ technical crew and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are set for a collision course over camp site for the senior national team ahead of the Nations Cup qualifier against Madagascar in September.

Super Eagles manager, Simon Kalika has hinted that the team is likely to camp outside Nigeria before the game; a position that has been downplayed by the Chairman, Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation, Barrister Chris Green.

Kalika opined that having the team camped outside Nigeria would prevent a repeat of the mistake made prior to the match against Ethiopia in Addis Ababa where the team were held to a 2-2 draw by the East Africans.

“We are looking at some options because it would be better for us to camp outside, somewhere close to venue of the match. That way, we won’t lose a day because we must learn from the little mistake we made before the game against Ethiopia”, he reasoned.

However, Chairman of the influential technical committee of the NFF, Barrister Green is adamant that the Super Eagles will camp in Nigeria before traveling to Madagascar for the all important game.

“When is the European season starting? August. At that time, it would be hard to secure the players to go anywhere. So they will come, spend five days in Nigeria before heading to Madagascar” Green insisted.

Mauritius has been mentioned as a likely camp venue for the Super Eagles before the crucial game in Antananarivo until the submission of Green which is set to bring back memories of the run-up to the match against Ethiopia where the team spent seven hours in the air as against the projected four hours after training in Nigeria for some days.

Team handler, Samson Siasia would later blame jet-lag for the disappointing 2-2 draw his boys recorded against the East African nation.
