We’ll compound Nigeria’s problem in Abuja – Guinea

By John Egbokhan

After their 4-1 victory over Madagascar at the weekend, Guinea coach, Michel Dussuyer has boasted  that his team were going to beat  the Super Eagles when both teams clash in the  last Nations Cup qualifying group B match on October 9 in Abuja.

Before that decisive game, Nigeria travel to play Madagascar on September 4, same day that Guinea host Ethiopia. Guinea have 10 points as against Nigeria’s seven.

Speaking with Guineenews, Dussuyer, dedictaed the victory to his players, who he said, gave their all to earn the thumping win and pull clear of Nigeria in the battle for top spot. Only one team qualifies automatically from each group while the two best placed runners-up from all the groups would also progress to the finals to be cohosted next year by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.

”We knew this team was capable of producing an upset. Our goal was to press them to submission. This is what we did at the start of the match. We managed to score quickly. Unfortunately, we conceded a goal because we allowed them room to launch a counter-attack. Nevertheless, we made the break by scoring the third goal. And in the end it was easier for us.

“The players gave everything in themselves to snatch the three points that allow us to distance ourselves from Nigeria. Congratulations to the players. Now we must win the last two games. I know the players  are determined to do it “

Also speaking, assistant coach, Morlaye Soumah “Kolovati, said that the final duel against Nigeria would be an exhibition game because Guinea would have done enough to guarantee their place at the 2012 Nations Cup finals
“We still have a home game, which we will do everything to win. And the pressure will be on Nigeria when we visit”.

Dian Bobo Balde, a Guinean central defender and scorer of the 4th goal, said that Nigeria’s draw against Ethiopia gave them the extra edge to go for the big win over Madagascar.

”It was good we won the match. This allowed us to have three points ahead of Nigeria which is our direct competitor.  We are very happy. I hope we’ll enjoy this win while staying focused on the next game, which  we will try to win too”, he said
