ABUJA – The Chemistry Society of Nigeria, CSN, has called on the Federal Government to come out with a policy that will encourage the study of Chemistry among young Nigerians. President Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria, Prof. Abdullahi Zuru, stated this at the celebration of the International Year of Chemistry.

Prof. Zuru said the broad objectives of the CSN were to increase the public appreciation and understanding of Chemistry in meeting world needs; generate enthusiasm for the creative future of Chemistry; encourage the interest of young people in the field and celebrate the role of women in Chemistry or major historical events in Chemistry.

In her remark, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology, Dr. Dere Awoshika, called for the need to have well articulated policies that could lead Nigeria into the pathway of prosperity.

She said: “Most of these policies are either in place or are being fine-tuned to get the desired ingredients.

“Some of these policies that need to be closely studied and implemented include the vision 20:2020; Nigeria Industrial Policy; Science Technology and Innovation Policy;Raw Materials Local Content Policy, and Millennium Development Goals.”
