ENUGU – ENUGU State government has said the current demolition of structures that have defaced the Coal City of Enugu would continue until the state capital was completely sanitised.
The State Commissioner for Urban Development, Mr. John Egbo, who disclosed this in Enugu yesterday, said several containers were currently blocking buildings, walk ways and other areas of the state, stressing that government’s directive and warnings to the owners to remove them were ignored.
No fewer than 100 of such structures were demolished by the government within the Artisan Quarters, Asata, last week, displacing the traders who complained that they were neither given enough time to relocate nor given an alternative.
One of the affected petty traders, Mr. Ikechukwu Ugwu, said yesterday that he was duly allocated a space within the Artisan Quarters by owners of the land and had been doing his business there for the past five years.
