Stakeholders are expressing worry over what they described as inability of the Federal government to meet at least 5 per cent funding of the health sector, saying that 50 per cent of Nigerians have chances of dying from minor illnesses due to environmental factors.

They carpeted government over failure to meet up the 15 per cent health funding recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Speaking in Lagos during the formal inauguration of the Healthcare Log Consulting (HLC), a group of Nigerian professionals whose expertise cut across management and medical fields, MD Havanna Hospitals, Chief Emeka Okeke said any nation that cannot spend 5 per cent of its GDP on health is doing nothing about the health of its citizens.

Okeke who took a swipe on Nigerian Health Management Organisations (HMOs) scored them zero per cent describing them as gross failure.

His words, “ Nigerian HMOS are only out to make money from inhuman insurance. They are only offering little or no treatment to the people. They only remove a little of what supposed to come to the people and keep the rest in their pockets.

Okeke said organisations like HLC comprising young and dynamic minds would improve the healthcare services as well as provide novel way of doing things in the country.

Chairman of HLC, Chief Boniface Nelson who pointed out that the media are awash with unhealthy statements and comments about the quality of services, posited that although the comments are correct noted that no matter by how much the health budget is increased, if those who deliver the care services to the clients continue to be bereft of what should be done to achieve client/patient satisfaction and ultimately improved health, such expenditure will amount to a waste.

He said HLC is to revolutionise the services and health sector through impartation of knowledge, provision of logistics, training and manpower development, etc.

HLC is also to assist clients in providing high quality services, generate new revenue, and contribute to the clients’ strength andgrowth.
