…as CPC threatens court action over Niger polls
BENIN CITY The Edo State chairman of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Mr. Godwin Erhahon, has faulted the call for the arrest of his party’s Presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari by the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bishop Ayo Oritsejafor, and dismissed it as “too hasty and unfair”.

Recalled that Gen. Buhari came out publicly to condemn the protests that trailed the announcement of the Presidential election in some parts of the North, Erhahon wondered why the man of God would call for the arrest and prosecution of the former Head of State.

He accused the bishop of mixing religion with politics by declaring during the electioneering campaign period that CAN had endorsed PDP’s Presidential candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan at a time the head of Muslims in Nigeria, the Sultan of Sokoto  told Nigerians to shun religious and ethnic sentiments and vote for those they feel can perform.

Defeated governor-ship candidate of Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in Niger State , Alhaji Ibrahim Bako Shettima has rejected the outcome of the election in the State won by the incumbent, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu and is now threatening to go to court to contest the  result.

Addressing journalists in Minna yesterday, Mr. Shettima  described last Tuesday’s elections in the state as full of irregularities  which are unacceptable to his party.

He said PDP hid behind the veneer of security to have a field day by using political thugs supported by security agencies to chase away CPC and other opposition agents from the polling units and collation centres, used monetary and material inducement on voters and opposition agents and forceful substitution of results sheets with falsified ones by the PDP at collation centres.
