Igbo community commends Oyetola over security

Uproar as Oyetola appoints Akande's son, wife as Commissioner, personal assistant

The administration of Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, has been commended for its strong security architecture, which has engendered sustainable peace and stability.

The commendation was given by the Igbo Community during an engagement meeting with the Special Adviser to the Governor on Civic Engagement, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye at the Centre for Civic Engagement, Osogbo, the state capital.

Speaking on behalf of the group, the President of Ohanaze ‘Ndigbo in Osun, High Chief BaviJohn Ngogwa, maintained that Oyetola’s administration has done well in securing their lives and property with its decisive actions as regards the state security system, thus making Osun a peaceful state and suitable for habitation.

Ngogwa said, “We commend Governor Oyetola’s security policy ranging from the establishment of Amotekun Security Network to the establishment of Joint Task Force among other security frameworks which are instrumental to the peace and stability enjoyed in the state.

“It’s no gainsaying the fact that our security is well guaranteed in Osun especially when considering the level of apprehension and fright enraging many parts of the country as occasioned by volatile atmosphere.

“We can’t but acknowledge the efforts of Governor Oyetola through the synergic programs of civic engagement which bring all communities together that by extension, foster inter – communal collaboration and harmony.

“Interestingly enough, no single Igbo man was affected by the ripple of Covid-19 due to the proactive steps taken by Oyetola’s administration in managing the pandemic. The efforts were very amazing to us as a community.

“It’s then not surprising to us that Oyetola is giving touches of excellence to every critical sector of the state which has engendered the development of the state’s economy. Oyetola is indeed an astute, proficient and result-oriented leader whose kind should be manning the state affairs.”

The community then sought for partnership with the government through regular patronage of their business ventures.

They also demanded special recognition from the government especially, in the area of sociocultural relations, as well as in terms of value added benefits such as empowerment and engagement programmes which would their lives meaningful.

In his remarks, the Special Adviser harped on the significance of the Igbo Community in the business activities of the state, describing them as one of the engine rooms of the region’s economic structure.

Oyintiloye also noted that the interests of all non-indigenous communities in the state, including that of the Igbo community are of priority to the administration of Oyetola and emphasised that Oyetola sees the needs of all residents as part of the responsibility of his government and would ensure their rights as entrenched in the constitution are protected at all times.

He equally assured them that Oyetola-led administration would not indulge in any form of tribal discrimination against them.

Oyintiloye said, “As a government, we strongly commit to democratic principles and norms in our civil relations as the assurance of that has necessitated the creation of civic engagement office as a democratic institution breeding a robust mechanism of government-people interface which is the primary element of democracy.

“Our government is equally availed of the constitutional provision that all Nigerians irrespective of tribe reserve the right to reside, transact businesses and practise their religion anywhere without hindrance or interference insofar the culture and tradition of the aborigines are respected.”

Speaking further, Oyintiloye urged members of the group to be law abiding and perform their civic duties as expected of them, while reiterating the commitment of government in ensuring a better state that works for all irrespective of class, religion, ethnicity and other social strata.

He maintained that the administration has done well in securing lives and property of the inhabitants with its decisive actions relating to security issues.
