A freight forwarding firm, Sea Map Nigeria Ltd has petitioned the government of Anambra state for its refusal to pay for services rendered to it five years after the completion of clearance of two units of forty feet containers laden with medical equipment in 2006.

In the petition with Freight forwarding firm  petitions Gov Obi over allege N10m debtreference number SMG-011/ASG-01/CD, dated 9th March, 2011 and signed by the Chairman of the company, Peter Obih, the freight forwarding firm noted that they were contracted by the then leadership of Dr. Chris Ngige, to clear the goods from the port at the above-mentioned fee.

Obih in the letter pointed out that five years after the completion of the job just at the tail end of the tenure of the leadership of Dr. Chris Ngige, the incumbent government under Peter Obi has refused to pay them despite several reminders about the out standing debt.

Part of the letter reads  “We use this medium to once again request the Executive Governor, His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi to approve the payment of the sum of ten million naira (N10,000,000) and accumulated interest owed our company for a job we had concluded its execution in 2006, when the then Governor of the State, Dr. Chris Ngige contracted our organisation to handle the clearance of the  two forty feet containers of medical equipment.

“This assignment was credibly and timely executed using borrowed funds that would have been committed to other productive and commercially viable projects in anticipation that the State Government will make payment on delivery of the consignments.”
