BENIN—A  Federal High Court sitting in Benin weekend granted an interim injunction against the authorities of the University of Benin restraining it from ejecting its former Vice Chancellor, Professor Emmanuel Nwanze, from his official residence.
Prof. Nwanze had gone to court for protection, following series of alleged harassment and threats by the authorities of the institution to evict him from the quarters situated at the Senior Staff Quarter P14.
Justice Muhammed Idris,  who presided on the matter, granted an order of interim injunction restraining the   defendants by themselves, servants, their agents and privies from forcibly ejecting the plaintiff from his official quarters and/or taking any further steps, howsoever described, intending to circumscribe or derogate from the plaintiff, peaceful enjoyment of his official quarters known as senior staff quarters P14 University of Benin pending the determination of the motion on notice.
The defendants in the suit are the University of Benin, Governing Council of the University, and the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University.
Vanguard learnt that the quarters had been the official residence of  former vice chancellors of the university.
Past vice-chancellors who had occupied the official residence include Professor Grace Alele Williams, Prof Andrew Onokerhaye and Prof. Richard Anao before the immediate past Vice-Chancellor, Prof Emmanuel Nwanze.
