Kalu consoles Olubayo’s mom

Players Union mourns Adefemi
Too much for a mother, especially when she was to be mother of the day in no distant time. That is the lot of the distraught mom of late Adefemi Olubayo, and the pain of former Abia state governor Orji Uzor Kalu.

Kalu wondered why death should take the promising defender at a time Eagles’ coach Samson Siasia is building a new team, and having problem with his back four as well.

“Olubayo worked hard for recognition.Having missed the World Cup, you could see that he was eager to play himself back into the new team. Now death has changed all that,a few weeks to his wedding. This is heart breaking.May the good Lord comfort his mother,” Kalu said.

Olubayo’s death reminded the Pillar of Sports of Kayode Oluyemi, who like the footballer, was also an Olympic silver medalist.

“This brings back the pain of the passage of Kayode Oluyemi who died in a car crash in the United States.Oluyemi was part of the Nigerian quartet that won the men’s 4x100meters relay gold at Barce-lona’92.That also cost Los Angeles ‘84 bronze winner Sunday Uti a limb”,he pointed out.

Olubayo was also a World Youth Championships[WYC] silver winning Flying Eagle.Recall that two members of the bronze winning USSR 1985 Flying Eagles also died in crashes outside Nigeria.Osaro Obabaifo died in a traffic accident in Belgium on August29, 1992.

Uche Ikeogu lost his life in an Oriental Airlines plane crash in Tamanrasset,Algeria,September 21,1994.Another Nigerian,Hyginus Anayo Anugom was knocked down by a teenage driver on Hector street, near Southern Cross College in the Sefton\ Chester Hill area of Sydney just before the opening ceremony of the 2000 Olympic Games.
