A-Ibom crisis: Court acquits Akpanudoedehe’s lawyer

ABUJA –Chief Magistrate Oyewumi Oyebola of an Abuja Magistrate Court sitting at Wuse zone 2, yesterday, struck out a suit brought by the State Security Service, SSS, against Francis Affanga, one of the lawyers to Senator John Akpanudoedehe, who is the governorship candidate of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in Akwa Ibom State.

This followed an application made by the prosecution counsel, Charles Osagie, praying the court to terminate the case and discharge the accused person.

“Pursuant to section 130(2) and 131(3) of Criminal Procedure Code, CPC, we say that investigation in the case has been terminated and we apply that the accused person be discharged and consequently, First Information Report, FIR, be struck out,” he submitted.

In her ruling, the presiding magistrate said “this beauty of justice, although the business of today is for ruling on bail application, the FIR dated 28th of March, 2011, upon which the accused is arraigned is hereby terminated.”
