Umuahia – THE governorship candidates of the major opposition parties in Abia State have rejected the results of last Saturday’s National Assembly elections, citing malpractices and called for cancellation of the elections.

They alleged, among other things, acts of intimidation, use of soldiers and other security agents, non-availability of result sheets, mass arrest of party agents and deliberate disfranchisement of their supporters by the PDP and described the whole exercise as a sham.

The candidates are Prince Paul Ikonne of ACN, Mr. Chris Akomas of PPA, Onyeaghala Obioma of CPN and Bob Ogu of ANPP.

They said the election was not free and fair, let alone credible, saying the results were allegedly produced where there were no elections.

For instance, they claimed that there was no election throughout the entire Aba zone as there were no  sheets to record  election results, as in Aba Federal Constituency.

“The whole thing was a sham, no materials and where they were, someone took them away into their houses to thumbprint.

“In some places, some aides to the governor were seen openly distributing money to those who had lined up to cast their votes and this is against the electoral laws of our land.

“Some policemen at some polling units were not genuine  policemen but PDP men who were given police uniforms to terrorise people, including some civil defence men,” they alleged.
