The Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in Rivers State, has rejected the results of the just concluded National Assembly elections announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The party alleged that security agencies and INEC adhoc staff rigged the elections in favour of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
State chairman of ACN, Mr Uche Okukwu in a statement, said “upon the departure of the First Lady, Patience Goodluck Jonathan at the Port-Harcourt Airport on April 5, to the hearing of all present, she directed the Joint Task Force, JTF, to deliver Rivers State to the PDP at all cost and the directive was carried out because security agencies, especially the police and JTF aided the PDP to harass, intimidate and assault voters and non-collaborating INEC staffs.
“At the collation centres, ACN agents were denied entry by the JTF and the police and there were no results sheets in many areas of the state, such as Khana, Degema, Gokana, Tai, Oyigbo, Obio/Akpor, Opobo/Nkoro, Onelga and Andoni.
“In some areas, voting materials arrived very late and no accreditation took place, yet INEC staff and the security agents allowed voting. Government officials were seen at polling units with heavily armed mobile police men while the PDP induced voters openly at polling units.
“Rivers State government officials were aided and accompanied by operatives of the State Security Service, SSS.
“ACN, Rivers State, demands the removal of the Director of SSS in Rivers State for electoral malpractice, intimidation and hereby call for the cancellation of the National Assembly elections held on Saturday, 9 April 2011 in Rivers State,” Okukwu added.
