Delta State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. George Ada, has affirmed that Prince Ned Nwoko remains the Democratic Peoples’ Party, DPP, candidate for Delta North Senatorial District in the rescheduled National Assembly election.

Dr. Ada made the clarification in a telephone interview with Vanguard in Asaba, yesterday, adding that INEC does not take decisions based on newspaper publications. According him, “under the 2010 Electoral Act, Prince Nwoko remains the validly and duly recognised candidate of DPP.”

The Resident Electoral Commissioner said the Commission had not disqualified Prince Nwoko and was not aware of any legal restriction on the DPP candidate to contest the National Assembly election.

In a separate statement  by the national secretariat of DPP,  the deputy national chairman, Sir Olisaemeka Akamukali, said that the party was solidly behind Prince Nwoko and urged all its members to go out and vote for him (Nwoko) and DPP at the polls.

He said Nwoko was duly nominated and his name  published by INEC. He   dismissed Mr. Paul  Azekwoh’s as an interloper.

Akamukali urged Anioma people to vote for Nwoko as the party had challenged the ruling of the Abuja High Court, which he alleged, was masterminded by the Peoples Democractic Party, PDP because it was  uncomfortable with Nwoko’s popularity.
