ILORIN – Kwara State police command, yesterday, paraded 19 suspected thugs allegedly belonging to one of the parties
The suspects are: Dauda Jimoh, Waheed Kareem, Iliasu Abubakar, Waheed Ambali, Isiaka Yisa, Akeem Moshood, Rasaq Saka, Seun Iliasu and Fatai Oladunjoye. Others are Rasaq Memud, Azeez Alabi, Bolajoko Seun (female), Mustapha Abdulahi, Surajudeen Suleiman, Taju Ibrahim, Suleiman Alabi, Abiodun Jimoh and Ibrahim Salau.
The command had last week declared some 148 persons wanted for suspected involvement in political thuggery across the state and issued warrant of arrest against them.
But, ACPN accused the leadership of the Kwara State police command of bias in its treatment of political violence.
Some of the 19 suspects in police custody who were arrested in a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number, Kwara XC 758MUN by military officers at army check point along Sobi Barracks, Ilorin, last Friday, were said to be smoking Indian hemp, a development that forced the stop and search army officers to intercept the bus.
Dangerous weapons such as pump action gun, local dane guns and axes of various sizes were said to have been recovered from them.
Also recovered from the suspects were charms, many wraps of Indian hemp and various gift items displayed by the police.
Speaking in an interview with Vanguard, the suspects claimed they were returning from a campaign where they hoped to collect N1,000 each per campaign which they never had the chance to collect.
However, the police said the suspected thugs would soon be arraigned in the court after the police command had completed its full investigation.
