Aba – ABIA State branch of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, said yesterday that it had not adopted any of the governorship candidates in the state, saying it was treating them on equal basis and praying for them.
State chairman of CAN, Bishop Goddy Okafor, who said this in Aba while briefing journalists, explained that CAN, being an umbrella of all Christians, could not adopt one candidate against the others as they are all Christians.
Bishop Okafor spoke against alleged report that CAN had adopted Prince Paul Ikonne of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, as its candidate.
The report followed the disruption of a programme last week by hoodlums allegedly sent by one of the candidates, and attended by some clerics and the ACN candidate.
According to Okafor, CAN cannot discriminate against any of the candidates rather, it encourages members to listen to all candidates, assess them and make wise use of their votes.
