The Governing Council has directed management of Lagos State University, LASU, Ojo, to set up an ad-hoc committee for the review of the senior staff conditions of service.

The terms of reference of the Ad-Hoc committee include:

* To review the existing condition of service guiding the senior staff of the university.

*To put in place machinery whereby inputs would be obtained from all sectors of the university community within 21 days period.

*To consider all the contributions in their totality and make review in line with the existing policies of the university within 14 days.

*To submit a draft copy for the consideration of the university management 14 days after the collation and consideration of memoranda.

Contributions are being sought from all senior members of staff (Academic and Non-Academic) of the university on issues in the senior staff conditions of service.

It also been directed that all aspects of the conditions of service are to be reviewed, that is, from “our Vision” to the “Career Structure for Senior Non-Academic Staff of Lagos State University.”

There are conditions of service review boxes provided at some designated offices on campus where interested members of staff can forward their contributions. Electronic submission can also be made via some e-mail addresses listed in the university official bulletin. All submissions should get to the committee not later than Monday, March 14, 2011.

Meanwhile, the Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi I. Olatunji-Bello, has been appointed a Trustee on the Board of Directors of the Lagos Higher Education Connectivity Project – Eko-Konnect, a Research and Education Networking of Free and Open Source Software centre, University of Lagos, Akoka.

Eko-Konnect is meant to address the problems of inadequate access to resources for research and education from the Global Research and Education Network. It is also meant to solve the problems of insufficient bandwidth, exploit the enormous power and capabilities of communication and connectivity that telephony and the internet present.

In another development, LASU management has cautioned students on the use of pin codes, as its attention has been drawn to the incessant complaints of students on cases of loss, theft, mis-use and, or mis-placement of Personal Identification Number (PIN) codes.

It was re-emphasised, in view of these complaints, “that the PIN code remains the only evidence of payment of school fees and the needed access that will allow students to process their on-line registration of courses.”

Students of the university were strongly advised to guard against the loss or misuse of their pin codes as well as prevent unauthorised access to pin codes by other students other than the rightful owners. They should also painstakingly insert the correct matriculation number(s) during their on-line registration exercise.
