AKURE – AT least four persons reportedly died in an auto crash as the campaign train of the President Goodluck Jonathan/Namadi Sambo arrived Akure, the Ondo State capital, yesterday. The crash involved a Peugeot 504 Station Wagon car and a trailer on Akure-Owo Road.
Vanguard learnt that the car marked EDO BT 850 BEN, was said to be heading towards the Akure airport while the trailer painted in NNPC colour was heading the opposite direction.
Eyewitness account said it occurred few minutes after the Presidential Campaign train landed at the Akure Airport. It was said to have been caused by the recklessness of the driver of the car.
Eyewitness account said occupants of the car were supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who were going to the airport to receive the president, but there were neither posters nor any other materials to confirm their identities.
Sources said the driver of the car, who was meandering along the busy road, moved in a zig-zag manner at top speed, lost control when it hit an object which led to the bursting of one of the tyres before it somersaulted and hit the trailer coming in the opposite direction.
