Ojukwu’s recovery is a miracle – London doctor

BY VINCENT  UJUMADU

AWKA – THE medical doctor, treating the ailing Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu in a London hospital, Dr. Thomas, has told Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State and his entourage who visited the defunct Biafran leader that the rate of his recovery was a miracle.

Describing Ojukwu as a very strong man, Thomas said in many years of his medical practice, he had rarely seen anybody that recovered as quickly as he was doing, adding that he doubted the possibility of his recovery when he was brought, due to the condition in which he was.

Ojukwu, who had stroke in Enugu, was initially admitted at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu, but had to be flown to London in an air ambulance when his condition became bad.

Governor Obi, who expressed happiness that Ojukwu was in high spirits, said  God was really in total control and thanked President Goodluck Jonathan and the South-East governors for their love and concern towards Ojukwu.
“God has continued to answer the prayers of Nigerians over Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu,” Obi  said at the bedside of Ojukwu who is being looked after by his wife, Bianca.

Among those that accompanied Obi during the visit were the former Minister of Health, Dr. Tim Menakaya; Senator Ben Obi; Ambassador Dozie Nwanna of the Nigerian High Commission in the UK; Dr. Emeka Nwankwu and Mr. Patty Ubajaka.

They were informed that Ojukwu was on Tuesday taken to another hospital for the last stage in his treatment, after which he would resume full physiotherapy, preparatory to his discharge.

Also speaking on Ojukwu’s condition, APGA Chairman, Chief Victor Umeh said the former Biafran leader “is in a “remarkably stable and satisfactory health condition.

“I am satisfied with the improvement in Ojukwu’s health and he is now very stable in the Hospital. He will be moved to the rehabilitation centre in the next one week,” Umeh told newsmen when he led members of the party on a get-well visit to Ojukwu in London.
