As the Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia continues the process of building a new national team with young players, former Gombe United Football Club chairman Alhaji Shuaibu Ahmed Gara Gombe has advised the  Eagles coach to weed off the old ‘brigades’ in the squad.

The outspoken former football administrator told Saturday Vanguard Sports, that they are players in the team who need to give  way  for the new players to take charge.

According to him, featuring the old order, as he described them, would continue to bring  barriers in the team as he urged Siasia to go for the younger players who are not only strong  and energetic but equally talented.

“There is nothing bad in building a new Super Eagles just as there is nothing bad in the way he has started his team’s  selection. He has to discontinue the old order to discover more players. However, whatever he is doing concerning the selection of players  has to be guided by merit. He should forget about quota system and sentiment.

“Also he should not allow  anybody to impose players on him. Building the team should be from his own idea. A football team is like a battalion of army preparing for war, if the troops are not well built and prepared, it cannot succeed in the  war front. Same is applicable with the national team.

I heard him saying that Yobo is still relevant in the  team, I think he is making a very big mistake. Yobo is part of the “old order”, if he gives them the  opportunity, they would  destroy  his team. Let him build his defence, mid-fielder and attack by himself. The only part of the “old order” I would  like him to retain in the team are the  goalkeepers and also the likes of Osaze Odemwingie and Obinna Nsofor.

“He should not worry about winning matches but concentrate on  how to build the team, winning can come later. He should also close his ear against any form of  criticism especially when he does not win.

“Lastly, Nigerians should also give him chance to do his job. If he must hear any critic, it should come from his employer, the NFF,” he concluded.
