Stanchart offers global currency with Naira Visa Debit Card

Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria (Stanchart)  in keeping with its commitment to bring world class banking service driven by convenience to its customers, has introduced a new card product – The Naira Visa Debit card.

The bank in statement said, “The product will be issued to all customers who maintain Naira savings or current accounts with the bank. The card can be used globally at any ATM machine or Merchant outlets/POS terminals where the Visa logo is displayed to make cash withdrawals and payments.  Holders of the card can access Naira while in Nigeria and foreign currency when outside the country from over 29 million outlets worldwide (including over 1 million ATMs on the Visa Network).”

Speaking about the card at its launch, Carol Oyedeji, Regional Head of Consumer Banking for West Africa said: “The introduction of the Naira Visa debit card is a demonstration of our pledge to provide solutions to our customers’ financial needs. Easy access to global currencies without necessarily having a domiciliary account is one financial need our customers have and we can now meet with this innovative product.

“Standard Chartered Bank pioneered the issuance of Visa debit cards in Nigeria with the introduction of the Visa Electron card in 2004 and then the Visa Platinum card in 2006. Since then, the bank has continued to invest in its card infrastructure which culminated in the introduction of the Visa Gold and Visa Infinite cards in 2010 completing its suite of premium debit cards. We have taken this a step further by providing Nigerians with a global currency in the Standard Chartered Naira Visa Debit card.

“The Standard Chartered Naira Visa Debit card also eliminates the hassle of buying travel allowance as customers can fund their Naira accounts and travel anywhere in the world with access to funds on demand.

The Naira Visa debit card is a chip and pin card. This means card holders  can expect enhanced security and protection from fraud, greater transaction speed, convenience and ease of use.

Cardholders can monitor their transactions online through our 24-hour online banking platform from wherever they are and can also access customer assistance from our contact centre at anytime of the day from anywhere in the world. Clients can also enjoy travel, hotel and dining privileges at selected Visa partner merchants worldwide, giving them added value for their money.

“For existing customers, all you need to do is to reach us with an expression of interest and the card will be issued to you. For prospects, once an account is opened in any branch of Standard Chartered Bank, the card will be issued immediately all terms and conditions are met.”
