IBADAN — The Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan will today hear a suit filed by the coalition against the second term ambition of the Oyo State Governor, Adebayo Alao-Akala.
The court, had restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from recognising Akala or any of the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, candidates that emerged in the controversial primaries after 37 plaintiffs had prayed it to nullify the primaries.
Consequently, the electoral body had removed the list of the governor from its list of candidates for the April poll.
The governor is being represented by Mr. Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, in the suit while the plaintiffs are being represented by Chief Adeniyi Akintola, SAN, and Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
The Director of Publicity & Communication, Akala/Arapaja campaign organisation, Mr. Morohunkola Thomas, said the ticket granted at the December 29 primary was a product of a legitimate process which cannot be stopped in any way.
He said, “To think that some expired and unpopular politicians can use some extra political means to achieve what they could not achieve on the political field is nothing but wishful thinking”.
