Enugu State Police Command, yesterday, warned politicians in the state to desist from acts capable of disrupting the peace of the state.
In a statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, the command said its attention had been drawn to “some dangerous statements credited to some politicians, which have potentials of causing ethnic, religious and sectoral tensions as well as masterminding political violence in the state and elsewhere.
Although details of such statements were not given, the command warned politicians in the state “to desist from any act or omission, language or statement capable of causing problem in the state.”
It added that the command would not fold its arms and watch some misguided politicians and their cohorts disrupt the peace being enjoyed by the good people of Enugu State.
“The command shall not hesitate to mobilize all machineries within its powers to ensure that the peace of the state is secured before, during and after the forthcoming general elections,” the statement said, while enjoining members of the public to be law abiding and go about their lawful businesses without fear of molestation.
Meanwhile, campaign jingles from the People for Democratic Change, PDC, and those of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have continued to dominate airwaves in the state as the parties continued to sensitize the electorate on radio and television channels in the state on the need to vote for credible candidates in the April 2011 elections.
The PDC, which is the platform for the Ebeano Political Family, led by former Governor Chimaroke Nnamani and the crisis-ridden PDP, are the two major political parties that have already commenced grassroots campaigns in the state ahead of the April elections.
