Gombe urges President Jonathan to rescue football

By Patrick Omorodion
Former Chairman of the Gombe State Football Association, Alhaji Shuaibu Ahmed Gara Gombe has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to rescue the country’s football from destruction by a few self-centered individuals.

A visibly angry Gombe said that Nigeria needs a two-year break to fix her football and hailed the Federal High Court decision to re-visit the annulled NFA election which brought in Alhaji Aminu Maigari as the new helmsman of the football house.

“President Jonathan should rescue our football now. We need two years to fix our football and FIFA should allow us to fix it now otherwise the crisis in our football will continue.

The order of the Federal High court to revisit the earlier annulment is long over due. It shows you how shallow the members of the illegal Board are. They couldn’t appeal the initial verdict to vacate the order and just carried on as if nothing happened,”he said on phone.

He said that he has always maintained that the Maigari-led Board was illegal and therefore “very happy that the court is revisiting the matter. Every activity done so far by this Board should be nullified. These  includes appointment of Samson Siasia and the state FA elections they just supervised. If they fail to nullify the elections I’ll go to court to challenge it.”

He wondered why Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi who has a case to answer with the EFCC should be allowed to contest election into the Osun FA, alleging that “there is also a government white paper barring him from holding any public office.”

He commended Imo state football stakeholders from resisting Chief Amanze Uchegbulam who wants to perpetuate himself in office as Imo FA chairman, stressing that the former first vice chairman of the NFA also has a case to answer with the EFCC.

Lambasting Alhaji Maigari on NFA’s decision to submit Dr. Amos Adamu’s name to CAF for next month’s election into the Executive Committee after sending Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima’s name, Alhaji Gombe said “he has shown that he doesn’t have the capability to head the NFA with this inconsistency.”
