PDP guber candidate in Lagos dragged to court

By Innocent Anaba
Dr. Shamsideen Dosunmu, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,  governorship candidate in Lagos State, has been dragged before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos by one Prince Oluowo Adeyeri, who is praying the court to nullify his (Dosunmu’s) nomination as the party’s flagbearer.

The plaintiff is contending that Dosunmu was not eligible to contest the January 10, PDP primaries, where he clinched the nomination of the party.

He is also asking the court to declare the next candidate with the highest number of votes at the January 10  gubernatorial primaries as the lawful winner and party’s flagbearer  for the gubernatorial elections in the state.

Defendants’ contention

Defendants in the suit are PDP, the chairman of the PDP gubernatorial Screening Committee, the Chairman, PDP Gubernatorial Election Panel and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Adeyeri is further contending that at the time the contest for the nomination of PDP’s gubernatorial flagbearer was held,  Dosunmu had not been a party member for up to two years as required by PDP’s guidelines.

According to him,  Dosunmu also failed to seek for waiver to cover the deficiency of not being a member for two years,  which he could have done under the provisions of Article 14 (j) of the PDP Electoral Guidelines for Primary Election, 2010.
