26 parties align with APGA in Lagos

NO fewer than 26 political parties in Lagos State have aligned with All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, to contest against Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, at the April polls.

Addressing newsmen in Lagos, Convener of Coalition of Lagos State Opposition Political Parties, COLASOPP, Dr. Adegbola Dominic, said it will ensure that APGA won most elective seats in the state.

Dominic, who did not mention the names of the parties for strategic reason, said the objective of COLASOPP was to dislodge ACN in Lagos, using APGA as the platform.

ACN elect presidential candidate
Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, will hold a special convention to elect its presidential flag-bearer at the Onikan Stadium in Lagos, tomorrow.

In a statement, yesterday, by its National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, ACN said all the national delegates, who emerged from the recently-conducted ward, local government area and state congresses of the party are expected to vote to elect the presidential candidate.

Akande said ACN Presidential Screening Panel has concluded its job, using the following criteria: educational qualification, vision, integrity,  past records and experience, leadership experience, political consistency, contribution to the growth of the party (financial and otherwise), international exposure and reputation, public perception and marketability, inter-personal skills and charisma as well as familiarity with and commitment to party ideology.

Akande said, “the party’s position is that aspirants must score over 50 percent at the screening exercise conducted to be able to participate in the primary.”

The National Chairman assured the delegates that all necessary precautions have been taken to ensure a hitch-free convention, and appealed to its teeming supporters to adhere strictly to the party’s much-vaunted ethos of decency, integrity, transparency and non-violence.

He also said that the coalition had chosen APGA because the party had the best internal democracy among all the parties in the state adding, “ACN is corrupt. It lacks internal democracy. We cannot continue with ACN’s propaganda. That is why we have come together to wrestle power from it.”

The coalition condemned the so called achievements of ACN in the last 12 years in Lagos State, describing it as deceitful propaganda and enormous misuse of the media to propagate lies.
