The 2010/2011 Nigeria Premier League season has seen two-time African champions Enyimba of Aba begin their worst run into a new season in many years.

Enyimba who incidentally are the defending champions of the NPL suffered their fifth defeat in 9 matches on New Year Day in the hands of Sharks of Port Harcourt. The Peoples Elephant, as Enyimba are fondly called by their teeming supporters have an up-hill task today as they take on Gombe United at the Enyimba International stadium in Aba.

Statistically, Gombe are the superior team in current form as they are 4th in the log with 16 points against Enyimba who are 11th in the log with 12 points.

Chairman of the Aba outfit, Felix Anyansi-Agwu told Sports Vanguard in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state recently that “the bad spell will soon be over as Enyimba will bounce back.”

Continuing, Anyansi who has led the club to the pinnacle of African club football said, “what is happening now is normal in football. That is football for you. You can’t win all the time, so Enyimba losing matches is nothing new in football.”
Looking ahead with optimism, the Enyimba boss assured, “results will start coming in soon. We have no problem.”
