THE Edo State Government has reacted to  comments credited to the campaign organisation of a governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state, Mr Kenneth Imasuagbon, that all the people of the state needed was food and not road projects as embarked upon by Governor Adams Oshiomhole.

The government described the comment as “very unreasonable” and reminded Imasuagbon, that the people of the state cannot be bought by mere grains of rice, which he distributed but quality leadership which  the Oshiomhole led administration is giving the people.

Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Peter Okhiria, in a statement, sad, “ordinarily, we would have waived this aside as another infantile statement from the aspirant’s campaign team, after all, we cannot be seen to be joining issues with Imasuagbon, who is but a mere aspirant of a faction of a dying party and not the candidate, but for the fact that it touches on the sensibilities of the very proud Edo people, who cannot be bought by mere grains of rice.

“If Imasuagbon loved Edo people as he now wants us to believe, then he should have set up his school in the state and employ Edo indigenes and not in Abuja and if he is as wealthy as he wants the people to believe, then he should establish industries in the state, where Edo people can be employed and they would fend for themselves rather than give them handouts of rice at Christmas,” he said.

“What Oshiomhole has done with the myriad of road networks in the state, which the Imasuagbon campaign team tried but failed to disparage, is to open up the state so that there would be even development in all parts of the state,” he added.
