No fewer than 400 farmers have benefited from Olam’s Model farm village concept across three villages in Bauchi and Jigawa states.

The Managing Director, Olam, International,  Mr. Yogbal listed the benefitting villages as Mujingini and Hamadu in Gumel local council of Jigawa states Gololo village in Gamawa council of Bauchi State .

Mr. Yogbal revealed that the Firm distributed more than 1200 bags of fertilizers and 400 litres of pesticides to those villages in both states, adding that United States Agency for International Development USAID markets also partner with Olam out growers program on technical aspects.

He revealed that the Agency has given training program to those farmers and had also conducted technical training seminars for the farmers in the villages on modern cultivation of sesame to get higher yield when compared to the conventional method.

Mr Yogbal stated that sesame farmers in this village  have been registered with Olam and were given free, certified sesame seeds, stressing that the  loan facility guaranteed to benefiting farmers under the programme will be paid through Buyback arrangement on existing market price.

The Managing Director noted that the effort by the International Agriculture firm tally with the Corporate Social Responsibility CSR division, adding that the current effort will sustained next year.

He disclosed that few more villages in will be incorporated into the programme next year as commended States Agricultural Development Projects ADP and Ministry of Agriculture for giving full support to run this program.
