Involve local players in new Eagles, Amoo advises Siasia

By Philips Adefioye
Former Super Eagles assistant coach, Fatai Amoo has advised Super Eagles Chief coach Samson Siasia to invite young and talented local league players as he makes to rebuild the team.

Amoo who is happy that Siasia has been watching Premier League matches at different stadia, said what he did with the U-20 and U-23 national teams, shows he will take the Eagles to greater heights.

“We have seen him as the coach of the U-20 and U-23 teams and most of those players he used have graduated to the senior national team. I have seen him coming to watch Premier League matches at different league centres and I know that he will  get local players who have age on their side and not players who are fading out,” he said.

The 3SC chief coach said by the time a full squad of local players have been assembled, it will be difficult for any foreign player to destabilize the coach’s plans.

Amoo therefore urged the Nigeria Football Association, NFA, to arrange international friendly matches  for the Eagles if they want to have a stable team for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations that will be co-host by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.

“By the time we have our local players competing with the foreign ones, I want to tell you that we are really going to raise a solid team. We need to bring  younger players who are doing well and I think if that is done with moral and financial support from the NFA, we can go back to the good days. But again, we need to excise patience with Siasia,” he said.
