Ilorin —  About  four persons were feared dead, yesterday afternoon, in a multiple auto crash involving three vehicles at Ganmo along Ilorin – Ajase-Ipo road, Kwara State.

As at press time, four other victims  were receiving treatment at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, UITH, Ilorin.

Eyewitness account told Vanguard  that the auto crash occurred at the Ganmo-Amoyo sharp bend  when three vehicles including a lorry unexpectedly crashed into one another a development that reportedly led to the instant death of four persons in one of the vehicles.

The account further said  that the lorry with registration number Lagos XU 972 EKY that was carrying Maggi cube and Omo lost control at the bend and ran into the Peugeot wagon with registration number XA 278 KWB and another private car with no identification number.

Consequently, according to the source, the commercial Peugeot with nine passengers was said  to have caught fire immediately, making it difficult for people to rescue the victims.

The source added that three of the victims trapped in the Peugeot were burnt beyond recognition because they could not be rescued until the fire brigade men from Ilorin came to put the fire out.

The driver of the lorry was reported to have escape and ran into the bush immediately the accident occurred.

The accident led to a serious traffic hold_up for several hours along the ever busy road for vehicles coming and going from Ilorin through Ajase_Ipo and Offa in Kwara state.

Contacted, the Public Relations Officers of the Kwara State Police Command and  Federal Road Safety Commission, (FRSC) Mr. Ezekiel Dabo and Mr. Sunday Dogunro confirmed the report in an interview  and warned drivers to be cautious and obey traffic rules and regulations.

According to them, the corpses of the victims have been deposited at UITH mortuary while those injured are still receiving treatment at the UITH, Ilorin.

Also, yesterday, a senior officer of the UITHC, Ilorin who sought anonymity confirmed the incident saying that, the affected victims have been attending to at the intensive care of the university following the degrees of injuries sustained by the victims .
