2011: I’m ready to face any opposition, says Ribadu

By Clifford Ndujihe, Deputy Political Editor
Former Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC Chairman, Malam Nuhu Ribadu has declared his readiness to face any opposition, including President Goodluck Jonathan, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Maj.Gen Muhammadu Buhari among others in the 2011 polls.

He told reporters after addressing members of the Yoruba Tennis Club, Lagos, Thursday, that he was not afraid of any of the political gladiators because “Nuhu Ribadu is also a gladiator.”

He was at the club courtesy of Alhaji Alade Odunewu, an accomplished and veteran journalist, who marked his 83rd birththday.

Speaking on “The Nigeria quagmire: The way forward,” Ribadu hinged the country’s avalanche of socio-economic and political problems on cancerous corruption.

He lamented that the dreams of the country’s founding fathers were yet to be realised after a promising start in 1960 because of corruption and declared that the country could still be redeemed.

According to him, his experience as EFCC head indicated that Nigeria could still be rescued if good people speak up and fight for their fatherland.

For instance, he disclosed that the EFCC under him recovered about N5 billion and secured about 300 convictions within four years of its existence.
