Atlanta 96 Olympic gold medallist, Kingsley Obiekwu has berated the Nigeria Football Federation over its insistence that new Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia should resign his post as coach of Heartand FC of Owerri.
Obiekwu who was fondly called Shagari in his active days said that inmodern football a national team coach could also coach a local club side, adding that such would help him see more of the home based players.
Obiekwe who handles C.Woermann FC of Enugu is participating in the 4th edition of C. Woermann Youth Football championship which kicked off yesterday at the National Stadium, Surulere Lagos.
He expressed sadness as his wards went down 1 0 to Lorry Brand FC at the Astro Turf at the National Stadium.
The former Enugu Rangers defender said that the team will bounce back from the defeat adding that he was optimistic that they could go all the way.
“Is just a slip, I believe in this team, this defeat will only make us stronger, I have the confidence that we can reach the finals,” said Obiekwu who led the team to win the title last year
In the second match of the day, 2009 runners up, Wincor Nixdorf Football Club of Lagos pipped Bosch FC by a lone goal, BPW FC played a barren draw with Record FC while Hangchan FC of Enugu also defeated JOST FC of Lagos by a lone goal.
