ADO-EKITI—Staffers of Ekiti State House of Assembly yesterday defied the directive of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, as virtually most of them showed up at their duty post until they were chased out by the labour leaders in the state.

The large presence of the assembly workers must have attracted the attention  of the labour leaders led by the state chairman of TUC, Comrade Kolawole Olaiya who immediately engaged the Clerk of the House, Mr Tunde Famoyegun in a hot discussion over  the workers action.

However, Vanguard reliably gathered that the  presence of the workers may not be unconnected  with the inspection visit of the governor, Dr  Fayemi to the  new House of Assembly complex located near the House.

After a heated augument between the clerk and the the chiarman of the TUC, the workers decided to move out of the Assembly and stood in-front of the complex.

When journalists visited the Assembly at about 10.30am, scores of workers were seen in-front of the House discussing the strike and the Governor’s visit to the Complex

Meanwhile, all government offices,  public schools  and banks were put  under lock and key, as workers complied with the  directive of the NLC and TUC  to  shun their offices

Office,Secretariat ,  commercial banks  were put under  lock and key, as workers and teachers refused to show up at their duty posts

At the New Governor’s office, where the office   of the Governor is located was deserted by workers, as few political office holders , security personnel and top civil servants were seen performing official functions

In a release signed by Olaiya and circulated by TUC early in the morning , said the workers must observe the three days warning strike since the federal government failed to accede to the N18,000 minimum wage being demanded by workers

Those in the entourage led by the TUC Chairman, Olaiya are: The State chairmen, Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools(ASUSS), Com Sola Adigun, the Senior Staff Association of Communications and Transports, Com Adebisi Adebayo, Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, Com Adunayo Adesoye, among others.
