BENIN—THE Edo State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has commended the House of Representatives for its condemnation of the dissolution and subsequent composition of local government areaS in Edo, Ekiti and Ondo states by the respective state Governors.

Meantime, the Presidential ambition of President Goodluck Jonathan received a boost in the state, yesterday, as the Goodluck Support Group, GSG, commenced its political sensitisation programme in the state.

In a statement  by it state Coordinator, Mr Victor Ebomoyi, the various groups under GSG resolved to set up various committees with a view to ensure that Jonathan emerged as the PDP flag bearer in the forthcoming presidential primaries of the party.

However, the Edo PDP in a statement by its chairman, said, “this is purely a vindication of our earlier position that the Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole has no constitutional powers to dissolve democratically elected councils and replace them with caretaker committees.”

He said it was an irony that the same party that went to court and got judgment has suddenly turned back to illegally constitute caretaker committees for the 18  councils of the state.

The party therefore called for the immediate recall of all elected chairmen and councilors to their respective offices, jus as it called for the immediate release of the oil windfall to the respective councils under the leadership of the elected chairmen and councilors without further delay.
