Yenagoa—Former Leader of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Mr. Steve Ereboh, has broken his silence on why he refused to take part in the impeachment of the pioneer civilian Governor of the state, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, five years after the incident.

Ereboh, who is also  from Amassoma community with the former Governor and one of the staunch supporters of the Governor during his travails, said he refused to go along with Alamieyeseigha’s impeachment based on his conviction.

The former lawmaker, who is contesting for the Bayelsa Central Senatorial district on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in an interview with Vanguard in Yenagoa, said his refusal to play along with the anti-Alamieyeseigha forces, truncated his return bid to the assembly in 2007.

Though he admitted being part of the legislators, who booted out the former Speaker now chairman of the Board of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Boyelayefa Debekeme from office, he said “it saddened me to note that my uncompromising stand in the plot to oust Alamieyeseigha cost me my return bid to the House in 2007.”

“I was harmonized out because I failed to sign the impeachment notice of Chief Alamieyeseigha.”

The former leader of the House of Assembly who challenged those insinuating that he was in the thick of the plot to impeach the former governor to come up with proof of his alleged involvement in the scheme said, “When President Jonathan was the governor of Bayelsa State, I was harmonized out of my position and people want to believe that I work in concert with him to achieve what. What peculiar gains are there?

These are the questions begging to be asked.”

He said his undoing was addressing journalists on the issue of the impeachment that the matter was not tabled on the floor of the House.

“When Chief DSP got to Bayelsa, I addressed press conference concerning the impeachment. The honorable members involved in his impeachment are still alive, if Steve Erebor was involved, people are alive, come out and say Erebor has nocturnal meeting with this A and B to do this, please, I need to know. Let somebody comes up and say Erebor did this.”

“It is not possible for me to have got involved in it and I will still restate it for no peculiar gain, I am not a man that will sell myself cheap for whatever benefit. I will not do it.

“When I supported him, Mr. President, Goodluck Jonathan, I did support him with all my heart and even spent my personal fund not for peculiar gain. Why will it now turn out to be that I am now playing politics under to do this, to disfavor this, not at all”

He said, if elected, he would bring his wealth of experience as a former leader of the state house of assembly to bear on the people of the zone even as he lamented what he described as the poor representation of the senatorial district at the National Assembly.
