Agbakoba drags FG to court over S-East devt

By Innocent Anaba & Iyke Daniel

Mr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, former President of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA,has dragged the Federal Government before a Federal High Court in Enugu, for neglecting the South East geo-political zone.

Agbakoba is contending in the suit that in order to ameliorate the hardship faced in the region, the court should award the five states that make up the geopolitical zone a total of N1 trillion as general damages, to be shared among the states.

He is contending that the abandonment of the Niger Bridge to collapse and failure to build the ‘Second Niger Bridge’ is making his region feel isolated from other parts of the country and causing him apprehension about disaster on crossing the existing bridge.

According to him, abandoning the South-East to be swallowed up by erosion and failing to respond to calls to check widening gullies in the South-East,
especially in Agulu, Nanka and Obosi, all in Anambra State.
