Violence rocks Edo AC registration, 2 killed

By Gabriel Enogholase

NO fewer than two persons were killed on Friday at Iguobazuwa, in Ovia South-West local government area of Edo State during the membership registration of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the area.

It was gathered that the exercise was marred by violence as guns and other dangerous weapons were employed by the different factions in the party in the area to undo each other.

Eye witnesses said that as soon as the exercise took off, there was violence everywhere in the area and, in the process, a vehicle was shot at and the driver died on the spot while three other persons riding in the vehicle sustained various degrees of injuries.

Also, a stray bullet was said to have killed a school girl at Ora village during a similar exercise in the area.

Condemning the resort to violence by the members of the ACN in the area, the deputy chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Mr. Clement Edo- Osagie, wondered what the party would do during the campaigns and subsequent elections.

“This is very bad, the introduction of violence into Ovia South_West politics. This is merely the registration of members which is an internal affair of the ACN. Why the use of guns? And this is a party that preaches one man, one vote. It means they have gone beyond the use of one man, one vote but rather the use of violence.”
