Apprehension reigned supreme in the Nigeria camp, particularly among athletics officials as five top athletes are still being expected to arrive in New Delhi for the Games.

They include Stanley Gbagbeke who has a decent chance to win a medal in the long jump event. Others are Seun Adigun 100m hurdler and 110m hurdler Nurudeen Salim. As at yesterday it was only Blessing Okagbare, Ajoke Odumosu and Damola Osayomi that have touched down in Delhi.

And Nigerian officials gave no indication that the others would be coming soon. This is even as the athletics event begins tomorrow.

“I have only seen Okagbare and Odumosu. I don’t know of the others, maybe they will be here on Tuesday, maybe not, I don’t know,” said Nigeria’s chef’d mission to the Games Elias Gora.

Before the Games began on Sunday, the concerned athletes had raised an alarm over their inability to get flight tickets to Delhi.

According to one of the athletes, they only received accreditation pass and nothing else.
“They are expecting us to pay our way down when we are not sure of a refund. Besides I don’t have money to buy ticket,” said one of the athletes.
