BENIN—A Chieftain of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in Edo State, Mr Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, has described as unfair, the seeming neglect of the dilapidated Lagos-Benin express road by the Federal Government.

The ACN chieftain, who narrated the pains being experienced by Nigerians on the road daily, regretted that rather than concentrate on the rehabilitation of the road as promised by the President on assumption of office, Nigerians are now discussing the primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which he said was supposed to be an internal problem of the party.

Agbonayinma, who recently declared his ambition to run for the chairmanship of Ikpoba Okhai Local Government Area of the state, said, “even what they did in Abuja, where the President celebrated the 50th anniversary of our independence, I still believed that the money spent on that occasion should have been used for the Beenin-Lagos Road because Nigerians are dying every day on the road.

“It is good that we celebrate independence but it must not be on a hungry stomach. How can you spend so much to organise such an event, when the major roads in the country are death traps. Look at the bomb blast experienced Friday in Abuja , which I learnt some militants are claiming responsibility for, it is because of hunger.

Even the amnesty programme later became selective and majority of the former militants are jobless today and yet we spent so much on frivolities,” he said.

He advised the President to “watch the activities of sycophants around him, so that he will be able to concentrate on the job given to him by God and Nigerians.”

The President must not lose focus on what he promised Nigerians because what is happening now is contrary to the promise he made to Nigerians on assuming office as President”.
