Former Eagles captain, Stephen Keshi said that he is ready to file his application for the coaching job of the national team, since it has now been thrown open by the Nigeria Football Federation.

Keshi who led the Malian Eagles to a fruitless chase of a Nations Cup title last January in Angola, said that he preciously did not show any interest in the position since Samson Siaisia, was linked to the job.

“If they advertise the job vacancy and make it open to everyone I will apply.
“A lot of people have been talking to me and asking me to go in there and change things, especially after what happened in South Africa.

“I did not want to do so because I heard they had already offered the job to my friend Siasia,” said Keshi.
Keshi and Siasia were front runners for the job, after German coach Berti Vogts was fired in 2008. However, the then NFF board led by Sanni Lulu appointed Shuaib Amodu, who was sacked after the 2010 Nations Cup.

Keshi, one of the longest serving captains of the national team, served as assistant to Shuaibu Amodu in the run_up to the 2002 World Cup, but was fired on the eve of the tournament along with his boss.
He guided Togo to qualification for the 2006 World Cup, but was again fired on the eve of the tournament.
