THE YEYE Federated Community, YFC, in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, has written to the House of Representatives Committee on South-South Development Commission over the location of the February 20, 2026 oil spill involving the Trans Forcados Pipeline, TFP.

The community made its position known in a letter dated August 15, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the committee, Julius Pondi.

The letter, signed by the Secretary of Yeye I Community, Chief Prince Onaro, and Youth President, Mozu Burutu, followed a report published on August 14 concerning the spill and representations before the House committee.

YFC said it was seeking clarification over references identifying the location of the spill as being in Odidi Community. The community said historical records available to it indicated that the area where the spill occurred is within land it identifies as belonging to Yeye.

“Available documentary records from far back in the 60s rightly confirm Yeye ownership of the said land and spill point,” the community stated.

YFC also said it was not aware of Odidi being recognised as a host community to the Trans Forcados Pipeline facility at the location in question.

The community, however, acknowledged that crude oil released during a spill could travel beyond its point of origin and affect neighbouring communities. It therefore urged relevant authorities to distinguish between the location where a spill originates and areas subsequently affected by the leaked crude.

YFC said establishing the precise location of the spill would help provide clarity and ensure that relevant records accurately reflect the facts.

The community appealed to Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited, relevant government agencies and other stakeholders in the oil and gas sector to examine available records and establish the precise location of the February 20 spill.
